Over the years the Long Dock or "Dock" as it is fondly referred to by locals, has grown to enjoy a healthy reputation for providing
quality food in a most relaxed atmosphere. Established circa 1820. The Long Dock, like most hostelries of its time, was also the
local drapery and grocers for the area, owned and ran by Mrs. Hehir. In the days when pubs bottled their own stout she was
renowned for having a very original way of aerating the stout…… by means of bicycle pump, which she kept behind the bar. Very
few structural changes have taken place to what you see when entering the premises. The most recent being some fifty years ago
when the area on the right and left of the door as you enter was opened up to enlarge the pub. Originally the right side had been the
dining area of the premises and the left the public bar. Up to this time the cattle were driven straight through, what is still the main
door, to milking parlour out back. Attracted by the family atmosphere of Carrigaholt the current owners have been running the
"Dock" for the last three years and hope, during your visit you will experience a taste of what is true village life of West Clare.
The Menu at the Long Dock has a variety of dishes to suit all palates, with a
strong emphasis on locally caught seafood. The pub is enjoying a fast growing
reputation for offering a wide variety of seafood dishes which can change daily.
Famous for Carrigaholt oysters, mussels, lobster and of course our chowder. The
only difficulty you will have is deciding if you should choose from the old reliables
or be more adventurous and try some original dish from the daily specials. The
choice is yours.
